HEAR Journaling - Genesis 16
Highlight – Genesis 16:15-16 New Living Translation
15 So Hagar gave Abram a son, and Abram named him Ishmael. 16 Abram was eighty-six years old when Ishmael was born.
Explain – Genesis Chapter 6 recounts that Abram and Sari could not see how God would fulfill His promise of a child from their union, so they conspired to have a child through Hagar, that would become Ishmael. Abram was 86 years old. Isaac would be born when Abram was 100 years old, and Sari would be 90.
Apply – God is ever faithful. He will always fulfil His promises. Perhaps not on the timetable that we may want or ever the way we might expect. This is a great lesson for us to be faithful and obedient, to strive to abide in and with the Lord consistently and continuously. We must patiently wait of the Lord and follow His will, not try to accomplish God’s will in our own power and reasoning.
Proverbs 3:5-8 ESV 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
7 Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. 8 It will be healing to your flesh[b] and refreshment[c] to your bones.
Isaiah 40:31 ESV 1 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
1 John 1:9 ESV 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Deuteronomy 7:9 ESV 9Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,
Respond- Thank You Lord for Your faithful promises. I look forward to the day that I will leave this sinful world to dwell with You and other faithful followers through eternity. I pray for those that do not know You, that they will yield to Your unction and become faithful and obedient followers too, Amen.
