Jacob’s Dream at Bethel
10 Meanwhile, Jacob left Beersheba and traveled toward Haran. 11 At sundown he arrived at a good place to set up camp and stopped there for the night. Jacob found a stone to rest his head against and lay down to sleep. 12 As he slept, he dreamed of a stairway that reached from the earth up to heaven. And he saw the angels of God going up and down the stairway. 13 At the top of the stairway stood the Lord, and he said, “I am the Lord, the God of your grandfather Abraham, and the God of your father, Isaac. The ground you are lying on belongs to you. I am giving it to you and your descendants. 14 Your descendants will be as numerous as the dust of the earth! They will spread out in all directions—to the west and the east, to the north and the south. And all the families of the earth will be blessed through you and your descendants. 15 What’s more, I am with you, and I will protect you wherever you go. One day I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have finished giving you everything I have promised you.”
Explain – Jacob has a dream on his way to Laban’s house to find a wife. God tells Jacob that all the families of the earth will be blessed by Jacob’s descendants. God promises not to leave Jacob until He has given all that He promised.
Apply – Jacob was strong in his faith with the Lord. He heard and believed God and acted accordingly. We need to do the same in our walk with the Lord. We must love the Lord with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength. We must honor the Lord with our thoughts, words, and deeds. The Holy Spirit will lead us in the way we should go.
Acts 2:17 ESV “‘And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;
Joel 2:28 ESV “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.
Ecclesiastes 5:7 ESV For when dreams increase and words grow many, there is vanity; but God is the one you must fear.
1 John 4:1 ESV Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
Jeremiah 23:28 ESV Let the prophet who has a dream tell the dream, but let him who has my word speak my word faithfully. What has straw in common with wheat? declares the Lord.
James 1:5 ESV If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
Respond – Lord, I know that You have plans for me and my house like You did with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I strive to follow You faithfully and obediently through eternity. I pray for those that do not know You, Lord, may they find Your mercy and grace. Amen.
