Highlight - Genesis 2:7-9 New Living Translation

The Man and Woman in Eden

Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.

Then the Lord God planted a garden in Eden in the east, and there he placed the man he had made. The Lord God made all sorts of trees grow up from the ground—trees that were beautiful and that produced delicious fruit. In the middle of the garden he placed the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

15 The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it. 16 But the Lord God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden— 17 except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.”

21 So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the Lord God took out one of the man’s ribs[d] and closed up the opening. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man. 23 “At last!” the man exclaimed. “This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh! She will be called ‘woman,’ because she was taken from ‘man.’” 24 This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one. 25 Now the man and his wife were both naked, but they felt no shame.

Explain – Chapter two has the creation of Adam and Eve and the creation of the tree of life as well as the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.  Notice that Adam and Eve felt no shame because there was no sin in the world at that time, not yet.

Apply – God created mankind to have a living, vibrant relationship with Him.  He has one rule that they had to obey, not to eat from the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.  They were to eat freely from the tree of life and enjoy life and the relationship with God forever.  There was only joy, no death, no suffering.  That is the life that God meant for us, and the life that we can have in Him when we accept Jesus as our savior.

1 Peter 2:24 ESV He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.

Revelation 2:7 ESV

 Revelation 22:14 ESV

Deuteronomy 30:19 ESV

Romans 10:9-10 ESV 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

Respond -  Lord, thank You for my salvation and this wonderful relationship that we share.  I strive to abide in You as You abide in me, faithfully and obediently following You.  I pray for those that do not know You Lord, that they come to know You as Savior and Lord.  Amen.
