HEAR Journaling - Wednesday - Genesis 33-34

Highlight – Genesis 33:5-11 New Living Translation

Jacob and Esau Make Peace

Then Esau looked at the women and children and asked, “Who are these people with you?” “These are the children God has graciously given to me, your servant,” Jacob replied. Then the servant wives came forward with their children and bowed before him. Next came Leah with her children, and they bowed before him. Finally, Joseph and Rachel came forward and bowed before him. “And what were all the flocks and herds I met as I came?” Esau asked. Jacob replied, “They are a gift, my lord, to ensure your friendship.”  “My brother, I have plenty,” Esau answered. “Keep what you have for yourself.” 10 But Jacob insisted, “No, if I have found favor with you, please accept this gift from me. And what a relief to see your friendly smile. It is like seeing the face of God! 11 Please take this gift I have brought you, for God has been very gracious to me. I have more than enough.” And because Jacob insisted, Esau finally accepted the gift.

Explain – Despite Jacobs fears that his brother Esau may have been holding a grudge against him, he was surprised to discover that Esau warmly welcomed Jacob and had forgiven Jacob of all his sins against Esau.

Apply - Forgiveness is powerful.  We have received God’s mercy, grace, and forgiveness for all of our trespasses.  He has directed us to forgive others as well.  We would be wise to never harbor any forgiveness as unforgiveness only brings bitterness and separation from God.  Let’s live free in God’s grace and share it with others.

Mark 11:25 ESV And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”

Ephesians 4:32 ESV Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

2 Corinthians 2:10-11 ESV Anyone whom you forgive, I also forgive. Indeed, what I have forgiven, if I have forgiven anything, has been for your sake in the presence of Christ, so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs.

Colossians 3:13 ESV Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.

Isaiah 1:18 ESV “Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.

Respond -  Thank You Lord for Your mercy, grace, and forgiveness.  I strive to love You with all my mind, soul, body, and strength and strive to extend the same to others as You give me strength.  I pray for those that do not know You.  Amen.
