Highlight – Genesis 39:19-21   New Living Translation

Joseph Put in Prison

19 Potiphar was furious when he heard his wife’s story about how Joseph had treated her. 20 So he took Joseph and threw him into the prison where the king’s prisoners were held, and there he remained. 21 But the Lord was with Joseph in the prison and showed him his faithful love. And the Lord made Joseph a favorite with the prison warden.

Explain – The story of Joseph continues from chapter 37.  Joseph was doing well in Potiphar house until Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce him.  Joseph remained faithful and obedient to the Lord and was blessed in prison with the favor of the prison warden.

Apply – The application for us is to realize that sometimes things do not seem to be going well in our own eyes. But God has a bigger and better plan.  We need to remain faithful and obedient in the Lord so that His will is accomplished.

Romans 12:2 ESV Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 ESV Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

1 Peter 2:15 ESV For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people.

1 Thessalonians 4:3 ESV For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality;

Matthew 6:10 ESV Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

2 Peter 3:9 ESV The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

John 7:17 ESV If anyone's will is to do God's will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority.

Ephesians 5:17 ESV Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Respond – Lord, thank You for Your salvation and Your plan for me.  Help me Lord to be all that I can be in You.   I pray for those that do not know You, may they come to a saving knowledge and new life in You, Amen.
