Highlight - Genesis 3:6-7 New Living Translation
The Man and Woman Sin
6 The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. 7 At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.
Explain – Chapter three records the fall of mankind. Adam and Eve were tempted by the evil serpent, they chose to disobey God. They ate the forbidden fruit and brought sin and shame upon themselves and all their descendants.
Apply – Sin had entered the world. This is called original sin, the sin that is passed down generation to generation. We all have inherited original sin and are born with a sin nature. Praise God that Jesus came to make a way of escape for us.
Romans 3:10 ESV As it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one;
Romans 3:23 ESV For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 5:12 ESV Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—
Romans 6:23 ESV For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Isaiah 59:2 ESV But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.
1 Corinthians 10:13 ESV No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
James 1:15 ESV Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.
1 John 3:8 ESV Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.
Respond - Lord, thank You for my life, for this wonderful relationship that we share. I strive to abide in You as You abide in me, faithfully and obediently following You. I pray for those that do not know You Lord, that they come to know You as their Lord and Savior, in Jesus name. Amen.
