HEAR Journaling - Genesis 43
Highlight – Genesis 43:16-18 New Living Translation
16 When Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the manager of his household, “These men will eat with me this noon. Take them inside the palace. Then go slaughter an animal, and prepare a big feast.” 17 So the man did as Joseph told him and took them into Joseph’s palace.
18 The brothers were terrified when they saw that they were being taken into Joseph’s house. “It’s because of the money someone put in our sacks last time we were here,” they said. “He plans to pretend that we stole it. Then he will seize us, make us slaves, and take our donkeys.”
Explain - The brothers had their sin of Joseph on their mind. After all the years they were still worried that God would make a way to punish them for their past sin. They could not see that there was soon to be a blessing beyond anything they could imagine.
Apply - Unrepented sin is a burden to carry. There is no need to carry it as Jesus is waiting on us to confess our sin and accept His forgiveness. Through the in-dwelling Holy Spirit we can live a fully righteous life free from the bondage of sin and separation from God. We can abide in Him as He abides in us, making us a new creation, free from the bondage of sin and shame.
John 8:34-36 ESV Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
Romans 6:18 ESV And, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.
Psalm 103:12 ESV 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
Romans 6:14 ESV For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
Romans 6:6 ESV We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.
Romans 6:22 ESV But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life.
Romans 6:16 ESV Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?
1 John 1:9 ESV If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
2 Corinthians 3:17 ESV Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
Respond – Lord, thank You for setting me free of my past sins and making it possible to live a righteous life through You, Holy Spirit. I am free of the bondage of sin and strive to abide in You and with You, following You faithfully and obediently forever. I pray for those that are in bondage to sin that they will yield to Your persistent draw to make them free. Amen.
