HEAR Journaling - Genesis 47
Highlight – Genesis 47:20-22 New Living Translation
Joseph’s Leadership in the Famine
20 So Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh. All the Egyptians sold him their fields because the famine was so severe, and soon all the land belonged to Pharaoh. 21 As for the people, he made them all slaves,[a] from one end of Egypt to the other. 22 The only land he did not buy was the land belonging to the priests. They received an allotment of food directly from Pharaoh, so they didn’t need to sell their land.
Explain – God’s plan for the nation of Israel was coming together. The people became slaves of Egypt not because they were conquered, but because they willingly gave themselves to be slaves due to the famine and the only resource was Egypt. Remember the only reason Egypt had sufficient grain is because God gave Joseph the instructions to make the provisions.
Apply – There is a famine in our land today too, a spiritual famine of faith in God. God has made a provision for us just as He made a provision for Israel in their famine. Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. All that come to Him are saved and are in-dwelt with the Holy Spirit so that we can not only survive the spiritual famine, but we are a new creation who is privileged to live with our Lord each day through eternity.
John 14:6 ESV Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 3:16 ESV “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Romans 6:23 ESV For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Galatians 2:20 ESV I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
John 5:24 ESV Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.
John 11:25 ESV Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live,
2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
John 8:12 ESV Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
1 John 1:9 ESV If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Philippians 4:13 ESV
Romans 12:2 ESV
Romans 8:10 ESV
Respond - Lord, thank You for this exciting life that I share with You and in You. Help me guard my heart from anything that will come between us, Lord. Help me to hear You clearly and to act obediently at the right time according to Your will. I strive to seek You and abide in You as You abide in me. I pray for anyone that does not yet know You as Lord. Savior and Friend. Amen.
