Highlight – Genesis 48:3-6 New Living Translation
Jacob Blesses Manasseh and Ephraim
3 Jacob said to Joseph, “God Almighty[b] appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me. 4 He said to me, ‘I will make you fruitful, and I will multiply your descendants. I will make you a multitude of nations. And I will give this land of Canaan to your descendants[c] after you as an everlasting possession.’ 5 “Now I am claiming as my own sons these two boys of yours, Ephraim and Manasseh, who were born here in the land of Egypt before I arrived. They will be my sons, just as Reuben and Simeon are. 6 But any children born to you in the future will be your own, and they will inherit land within the territories of their brothers Ephraim and Manasseh.
Explain – Jacob explained that God has a plan for his descendants, the people of Israel. They have been given the land of Canaan. He also accepted Joseph’s two sons into the family, Ephraim and Manasseh and blessed them as they were to become great nations as well.
Apply – When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior we too are adopted into His family, and likewise receive all of His promises.
Ephesians 3:6 ESV This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.
Ephesians 1:5 ESV He predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will,
John 1:12-13 ESV But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
1 John 3:1-2 ESV See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.
Ephesians 2:19-22 ESV So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.
Romans 8:15 ESV For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
John 3:16-17 ESV
Respond - Lord, I am so glad that I am part of the family of God, washed clean by Your blood, to a newness of life. I strive to seek You and abide in You as You abide in me. I look forward to the life that I share with You through eternity. I pray for anyone that does not yet know You as Lord. Savior and Friend. Amen.
