Jacob’s Last Words to His Sons
8 ”Judah, your brothers will praise you. You will grasp your enemies by the neck.
All your relatives will bow before you.
9 Judah, my son, is a young lion that has finished eating its prey.
Like a lion he crouches and lies down; like a lioness—who dares to rouse him?
10 The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from his descendants,[a]
until the coming of the one to whom it belongs,[b] the one whom all nations will honor.
Explain – Jacob’s last words to his son Judah. Jacob foretells of the birth of the Messiah, that He will come from the lineage of Judah. Judah’s descendants are the Tribe of the Lion of Judah, Jesus Christ’s birth descended from Adam, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Judah. Jesus is the Messiah that came that all wise people would be made free of the bondage of sin, that all the nations have and will honor Him.
Apply – We are blessed to have the opportunity to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. He came as a man to personally bring His message of love and His sacrifice makes it possible for each of us to accept Him as Lord and Savior to live with Him and in Him through eternity.
Matthew 1:3, 16 ESV 3And Judah the father of Perez and Zerah by Tamar, and Perez the father of Hezron, and Hezron the father of Ram, … 16 and Jacob the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ.
Hebrews 7:14 ESV For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, and in connection with that tribe Moses said nothing about priests.
John 1:29 ESV The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
Revelation 5:5 ESV And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.”
Revelation 7:17 ESV For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”
Ephesians 4:11-15 ESV And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ,
Respond - Lord, I am so glad that I am part of the family of God, washed clean by Your blood, to a newness of life. I strive to seek You and abide in You as You abide in me. I look forward to the life that I share with You through eternity. I pray for anyone that does not yet know You as Lord. Savior and Friend. Amen.
