HEAR Journaling - Genesis 4

Highlight - Genesis 4:6-9 New Living Translation

Cain and Abel

“Why are you so angry?” the Lord asked Cain. “Why do you look so dejected? You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.” One day Cain suggested to his brother, “Let’s go out into the fields.”[c] And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother, Abel, and killed him. Afterward the Lord asked Cain, “Where is your brother? Where is Abel?” “I don’t know,” Cain responded. “Am I my brother’s guardian?”

Explain – Chapter four records the sin of Cain when he killed his brother, Abel.  Cain seemed to think that he could hide his offense from God, foolish man.  The wages of sin is death.

Apply – God knows what we all think, say, and do, every moment of our lives.  There is no hiding our sin from Him.  Sin just brings separation between us and God, once we have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we can experience a new life in Him.

Proverbs 28:13 ESV Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.

1 John 1:9 ESV If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Isaiah 59:2 ESV But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.

Jeremiah 17:9 ESV The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?

John 6:40 ESV For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”

Acts 2:38 ESV And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Respond -  Lord, thank You for my life, for this wonderful relationship that we share.  I strive to abide in You as You abide in me, faithfully and obediently following You.  I pray for those that do not know You Lord, that they come to know You as their Lord and Savior, in Jesus name.  Amen.
