HEAR Journaling - Genesis 6
Highlight - Genesis 6:9-14, 22 New Living Translation
The Story of Noah
9 This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on earth at the time, and he walked in close fellowship with God. 10 Noah was the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
11 Now God saw that the earth had become corrupt and was filled with violence. 12 God observed all this corruption in the world, for everyone on earth was corrupt. 13 So God said to Noah, “I have decided to destroy all living creatures, for they have filled the earth with violence. Yes, I will wipe them all out along with the earth! 14 “Build a large boat[c] from cypress wood[d] and waterproof it with tar, inside and out. Then construct decks and stalls throughout its interior.
… 22 So Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him.
Explain – Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless man living on the earth at that time. God chose Noah and his family to build the ark to God’s specifications for a mighty purpose, to preserve and restart life on earth per God’s plan. Noah did everything exactly as God directed.
Apply – God called Noah to a seemingly impossible task. Noah and his family completed the work faithfully as directed by the Lord. When the Lord calls us to a task, we do not need to understand the purpose we just need to be faithfully obedient to follow and complete the work per the instructions of the Lord.
John 5:30 ESV “I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me.
John 15:16 ESV You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.
1 Corinthians 15:58 ESV Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
Romans 12:2 ESV Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Luke 1:6 ESV And they were both righteous before God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and statutes of the Lord.
John 8:31-32 ESV So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
2 John 1:6-9 ESV
1 John 2:17 ESV
Respond - Lord, thank You for my life, for this wonderful relationship that I have with You. Help me Lord to be effective in the tasks that You have called me to. I strive to abide in You as You abide in me, faithfully and obediently following You. I pray for those that do not know You Lord, that they come to know You as their Lord and Savior, in Jesus name. Amen.
