HEAR Journaling - Genesis 8

Highlight - Genesis 8:1-17 New Living Translation

1But God remembered Noah and all the wild animals and livestock with him in the boat. He sent a wind to blow across the earth, and the floodwaters began to recede. The underground waters stopped flowing, and the torrential rains from the sky were stopped. So the floodwaters gradually receded from the earth. After 150 days, exactly five months from the time the flood began,[a] the boat came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. Two and a half months later,[b] as the waters continued to go down, other mountain peaks became visible.

After another forty days, Noah opened the window he had made in the boat and released a raven. The bird flew back and forth until the floodwaters on the earth had dried up. He also released a dove to see if the water had receded and it could find dry ground.

Explain – The timeline for the great world-wide flood was as follows:

-       The flood began - Noah was 600 years old.

-       The flood continued for 150 days.

-       Then 2 ½ months later the waters receded.

-       Then in 40 more days, Noah released the raven & dove.

-       Then in 7 more days, Noah released the dove again, returning with an olive leaf.

-       Then in 7 more days, Noah released the dove again, which did not return.

-       Then Noah was 601 years old, 10 ½ months after the beginning of the flood.

-       Then 2 months later Noah and his family and all creatures were released from the ark.

Apply – Again, I highly encourage you to visit the Ark Encounter in Kentucky, you will see firsthand how all of this is very possible, and is true.  Also, see our Hear2See video on the Ark Encounter for more information.

The evidence of the world-wide flood is quite clear for anyone.  Why would the “wise” unbelieving scholars of the world say and instruct that there was no world-wide flood?

The truth is, that there was a world-wide flood, that God but on the earth for judgement for the sin and depravity of that time.  Noah and his family were selected to build the boat (Ark) to replenish the new earth, as the earth was changed a great deal from the pre-flood earth.  They were faithfully obedient in all things required of them.

The application for us today is to be wise to seek God for His Truth and not accept the fables of men that try to explain away God, His creation, His judgement, and His plan of salvation for each of us.  Our enemy, Satan, the devil, wants as many as possible to doubt the flood, doubt God’s judgement, and doubt His plan for salvation.  We must stand fast in our faith, following God faithfully and obediently through eternity.

Respond - Lord, thank You for my life, for my salvation.  Thank You Holy Spirit for always leading me to Your Truth that sets us all free.  I strive to abide in You as You abide in me, faithfully and obediently following You to the end.  I pray for those that do not know You Lord, that they come to You, in Jesus name.  Amen.
