HEAR Journaling - Exodus 19
Highlight – Exodus 19:16-20 New Living Translation
16 On the morning of the third day, thunder roared and lightning flashed, and a dense cloud came down on the mountain. There was a long, loud blast from a ram’s horn, and all the people trembled. 17 Moses led them out from the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. 18 All of Mount Sinai was covered with smoke because the Lord had descended on it in the form of fire. The smoke billowed into the sky like smoke from a brick kiln, and the whole mountain shook violently. 19 As the blast of the ram’s horn grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God thundered his reply. 20 The Lord came down on the top of Mount Sinai and called Moses to the top of the mountain. So Moses climbed the mountain.
Explain – The Lord instructed Moses to have the people prepare to meet and hear from Him. After three days of preparation Mount Sinai was covered in smoke and fire. The mountain shook violently with a blast of the ram’s horn.
Apply – God can appear to us in many ways. Perhaps a soft quiet voice, through direct conversation mind to mind, perhaps audible voice, visions, dreams, through others etc. We need to prepare ourselves so that we can receive and apply His Truth.
Romans 12:1-2 ESV I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
1 Peter 3:15 ESV But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,
John 8:32 ESV And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Luke 21:36 ESV But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”
Matthew 7:7 ESV “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
2 Timothy 2:15 ESV Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.
1 Corinthians 3:18 ESV Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise.
2 Corinthians 4:4 ESV In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
Respond – Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness, wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and instruction. Help me Lord to prepare to hear You correctly, to apply Your directions effectively. I strive to follow You obediently and faithfully forever. I pray for any that do not know You, Lord. Amen.
