HEAR Journaling - Exodus 23

Highlight – Exodus 23:19  New Living Translation

19 “As you harvest your crops, bring the very best of the first harvest to the house of the Lord your God. “You must not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.

Explain – Moses shared God’s regulations that said the very best of the first harvest should be brought to the house of the Lord.  He also stated “You must not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.”

The first part is clear, offerings should be the best, and to give to God first, the first fruits.

The second, You must not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.”, is a metaphor that means…

“Teachings about God are difficult to understand. Don’t accept new spiritual teachings about God that look too good, and too easy, to be true; they have probably been deliberately ‘cooked up’ to deceive you”.

Apply – We are to always Give God our very best.  When we tithe, we should give Him the firstfruits, the first 10% which is the first fruits.  Give that to the “House of the Lord” that God has directed you to.  This is worship and honing God with our obedience.

For the second thought, we must be wise to seek the Lord for discernment, wisdom, knowledge, understanding, and instruction so as not to be deceived by cooked up doctrines of men.

Proverbs 3:9-10 ESV Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.

Nehemiah 10:35 ESV We obligate ourselves to bring the firstfruits of our ground and the firstfruits of all fruit of every tree, year by year, to the house of the Lord;

Proverbs 3:9 ESV Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce;

Malachi 3:10 ESV Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.

1 Timothy 6:3-5 ESV If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound[b] words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain.

2 Timothy 4:3-4 ESV

1 John 4:1 ESV

2 Peter 2:1-3 ESV

Respond – Lord, thank You for Your love, mercy, and grace.  I strive to follow You obediently and faithfully in all things including giving.  Thank You for this amazing relationship that I share with You.  I pray for any that do not know You, Lord. Amen.
