Highlight – Exodus 2:1-6, 10 New living Translation
The Birth of Moses
1 About this time, a man and woman from the tribe of Levi got married. 2 The woman became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She saw that he was a special baby and kept him hidden for three months. 3 But when she could no longer hide him, she got a basket made of papyrus reeds and waterproofed it with tar and pitch. She put the baby in the basket and laid it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile River. 4 The baby’s sister then stood at a distance, watching to see what would happen to him. 5 Soon Pharaoh’s daughter came down to bathe in the river, and her attendants walked along the riverbank. When the princess saw the basket among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it for her. 6 When the princess opened it, she saw the baby. The little boy was crying, and she felt sorry for him. “This must be one of the Hebrew children,” she said.
…10 Later, when the boy was older, his mother brought him back to Pharaoh’s daughter, who adopted him as her own son. The princess named him Moses,[a] for she explained, “I lifted him out of the water.”
Explain – Baby boys had a death sentence on them because of the new pharaoh’s fear of the Israelites. God’s plan was for Moses to be raised up as an Egyptian prince despite his Hebrew bloodline.
Apply - What amazing faith for Moses’ mother to put him in a basket in the water. She didn’t know what God’s marvelous plan was, that Moses would grow up as an Egyptian prince to eventually lead the Hebrews out of Egypt and to give them the law from God himself.
We may question circumstances and God’s motives at times, but we would be better served to trust in the Lord with all our hearts, lean not on our own understanding, but acknowledge Him in all of our ways and He will make our path straight according to His will and plan. His way is so much better than anything we can imagine.
Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Psalm 118:8 ESV It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.
Isaiah 12:2 ESV “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.”
Romans 15:13 ESV May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
Psalm 28:7 ESV The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.
Jeremiah 17:7-8 ESV
Romans 8:28 ESV
Respond – Lord, thank You for Your will and plan for my life. I strive to abide in You as You abide in me, following You faithfully and obediently always forever. I pray for all that do not know You, that they will seek and find You. Amen.
