HEAR Journaling - Exodus 4
Highlight – Exodus 4:24-26 New living Translation
24 On the way to Egypt, at a place where Moses and his family had stopped for the night, the Lord confronted him and was about to kill him. 25 But Moses’ wife, Zipporah, took a flint knife and circumcised her son. She touched his feet[b] with the foreskin and said, “Now you are a bridegroom of blood to me.” 26 (When she said “a bridegroom of blood,” she was referring to the circumcision.) After that, the Lord left him alone.
Explain – This was very confusing to me at first, why after all the dialogue between God and Moses would God want to kill Moses? Moses had not circumcised his first-born son because his wife was not a Hebrew. Zipporah, Moses’ wife, circumcised their son which made things right under God. This was important because later all the first-born sons would be protected by the Passover. Moses had this once hidden sin between him and God, that God demanded be made right. This had to be reconciled before he could proceed on his mission to Egypt.
Apply - Do we have any hidden sin that needs to be reconciled with God? There are consequences to sin, we must ensure that we are right with God. The best way to be certain is to humbly ask Him to reveal anything that is amiss in our life, ask Him to reveal these things and to repent and make reconciliation as He may require.
Colossians 1:20-22 ESV And through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him,
Luke 12:2 ESV Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.
Ecclesiastes 12:14 ESV For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.
Numbers 32:23 ESV But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the Lord, and be sure your sin will find you out.
Job 13:23 ESV How many are my iniquities and my sins? Make me know my transgression and my sin.
James 5:16 ESV Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
Colossians 1:20 ESV And through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.
Colossians 3:13 ESV Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.
Respond – Lord, thank You for Your will and plan for my life. I give myself totally to You, Your will not my will, Lord. Show me Lord the areas of my life that need to be reconciled with You and others. Show me the way to make things right. I strive to abide in You as You abide in me, following You faithfully and obediently always forever. I pray for all that do not know You, that they will seek and find You. Amen.
