Promises of Deliverance
2 And God said to Moses, “I am Yahweh—‘the Lord.’[a] 3 I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as El-Shaddai—‘God Almighty’[b]—but I did not reveal my name, Yahweh, to them. 4 And I reaffirmed my covenant with them. Under its terms, I promised to give them the land of Canaan, where they were living as foreigners. 5 You can be sure that I have heard the groans of the people of Israel, who are now slaves to the Egyptians. And I am well aware of my covenant with them.
6 “Therefore, say to the people of Israel: ‘I am the Lord. I will free you from your oppression and will rescue you from your slavery in Egypt. I will redeem you with a powerful arm and great acts of judgment. 7 I will claim you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God who has freed you from your oppression in Egypt. 8 I will bring you into the land I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I will give it to you as your very own possession. I am the Lord!’”
Explain – God gave Moses direction to tell the Hebrews that He was about to redeem them and take them to their promised land just as his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob said.
Apply - God has a covenant with us as well through Jesus Christ to free us from the bondage of sin, to set us free in Him and with Him, and one day to be taken to the New Heaven and New Earth to live with Him through eternity just as he promised us.
Isaiah 65:17 ESV “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind.
2 Peter 3:13 ESV But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
Revelation 21:1 ESV Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
Isaiah 66:22 ESV “For as the new heavens and the new earth that I make shall remain before me, says the Lord, so shall your offspring and your name remain.
Revelation 21:4 ESV He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
John 14:2 ESV In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?
Hebrews 11:10 ESV For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.
1 Peter 1:4 ESV To an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,
1 Corinthians 2:9 ESV But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”—
Respond – Lord, thank You for Your promise to me. I strive to abide in You as You abide in me, faithfully and obediently through eternity. I pray for all that do not know You, that they will seek and find You. Amen.
