Highlight - 1 Corinthians 11 New Living Translation
27 So anyone who eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord unworthily is guilty of sinning against[g] the body and blood of the Lord. 28 That is why you should examine yourself before eating the bread and drinking the cup. 29 For if you eat the bread or drink the cup without honoring the body of Christ,[h] you are eating and drinking God’s judgment upon yourself. 30 That is why many of you are weak and sick and some have even died.
31 But if we would examine ourselves, we would not be judged by God in this way. 32 Yet when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned along with the world.
Explain – Paul explains to the believers in Corinth that they must examine themselves and ensure they are honoring God with a contrite and pure heart with no unconfessed sin, no unforgiveness toward anyone. Paul states that many of them were sick and some had died because of their unfaithfulness and unforgiveness.
Apply – We also must live clean, faithful, and obedient lives through the Holy Spirit. God cannot honor our prayer if we are living a sinful, unrepentant, or unforgiving life.
Ephesians 4:30 New Living Translation 30 And do not bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. Remember, he has identified you as his own,[a] guaranteeing that you will be saved on the day of redemption.
Matthew 5:23-24 New Living Translation 23 “So if you are presenting a sacrifice[a] at the altar in the Temple and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you, 24 leave your sacrifice there at the altar. Go and be reconciled to that person. Then come and offer your sacrifice to God.
Mark 11:25 New Living Translation 25But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.[a]”
Respond – Lord, help me to search myself for any unrighteousness, forgive me Lord as I faithfully and obediently follow You.
