Highlight Matthew 17:22-23 New Living Translation
Jesus Again Predicts His Death
22 After they gathered again in Galilee, Jesus told them, “The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of his enemies. 23 He will be killed, but on the third day he will be raised from the dead.” And the disciples were filled with grief.
Explain – This is just one clear account of Jesus telling the disciples about His coming death and resurrection. Jesus explained about His death and resurrection to the disciples several times, but they didn’t seem to understand it until Jesus rose from death and returned to see them. Doubting Thomas even would not believe until he could actually see Jesus Himself.
Apply – The question for ourselves is what has God been trying to show us that we just are not understanding? Are we not making our relationship with Him a priority so that we can receive His wisdom, knowledge, understanding and instruction? Could we be accused of being a doubting Thomas?
John 8:47 ESV Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.”
Mark 4:24 ESV And he said to them, “Pay attention to what you hear: with the measure you use, it will be measured to you, and still more will be added to you.
John 10:27-28 ESV My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.
Psalm 25:4-5 ESV Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.
Romans 10:17 ESV So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
Respond - Lord, thank You for Your Truth. Help me Lord to be still and hear and apply the wisdom, knowledge, understanding and instruction that You share with me. I pray for those that are ignoring You, Lord, may they experience You in a way they can not deny and receive You. Amen.
