HEAR Journaling - Matthew Chapter 18
Highlight – Matthew 18:12-14 New Living Translation
Parable of the Lost Sheep
12 “If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders away, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others on the hills and go out to search for the one that is lost? 13 And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he will rejoice over it more than over the ninety-nine that didn’t wander away! 14 In the same way, it is not my heavenly Father’s will that even one of these little ones should perish.
Explain – Jesus explains that a sheepherder will go to extreme effort to rescue one lost sheep. The same is with our relationship with the Lord, He is our shepherd and we will not want if we will abide with Him along with the rest of the other faithful followers of Jesus.
Apply – We can know that our Lord does indeed love us and will never forsake us. We must follow Him obedient and faithful in all of His ways. Should we stray, He will come to rescue us, but He is a gentleman and will not force us to do anything against our will. Let us submit our will to His will so that we will remain with Him through eternity.
Luke 16:10-12 ESV “One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? And if you have not been faithful in that which is another's, who will give you that which is your own?
2 Corinthians 5:7 ESV For we walk by faith, not by sight.
1 John 1:9 ESV If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Proverbs 3:3-4 ESV Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.
John 10:11 ESV I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
James 5:19-20 ESV My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
John 3:16-17 ESV “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Respond – Lord, thank You for Your steadfast love and everlasting care for me. Help me Lord as I strive to abide in You as You abide in me, to follow You faithfully and obediently forever. I pray for the lost sheep in our world today, I know You are ready to rescue them. May they accept You as savior and remain steadfast in a purposeful relationship with You. Amen.
