HEAR Journaling - Matthew Chapter 19
Highlight – Matthew 19:13-15 New Living Translation
Jesus Blesses the Children
13 One day some parents brought their children to Jesus so he could lay his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples scolded the parents for bothering him. 14 But Jesus said, “Let the children come to me. Don’t stop them! For the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children.” 15 And he placed his hands on their heads and blessed them before he left.
Explain – Jesus explains that the kingdom of Heaven belongs to those that are like children. Children are innocent believers of Truth when it is presented to them. So too must people become to come to Jesus as a faithful believer not trying to understand everything, but to accept Him faithfully and innocently with a pure heart.
Apply – This is still true today. We must come to Jesus repenting and accepting His free gift of salvation. We should not waste time trying to understand everything because God’s ways are so vast, we could never comprehend them all. We need to simply believe by faith, and once we have accepted Jesus, He will impart the Holy Spirit to dwell within us and lead us unto all truth.
Luke 18:17 ESV Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”
Hebrews 11:6 ESV And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Romans 10:17 ESV So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
Isaiah 41:10 ESV Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Respond – Lord, thank You for Your steadfast love that I received as an innocent child. Help me Lord as I strive to abide in You as You abide in me, to follow You faithfully and obediently forever. I pray for the lost people in our world today, I know You are ready to rescue them. May they accept You as savior and remain steadfast in a purposeful relationship with You. Amen.
