Highlight – Matthew 20:25-28 New Living Translation
Jesus Teaches about Serving Others
25 But Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. 26 But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. 28 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Explain – Jesus explains that believers in Him are destined to be servant leaders as He was, He came to serve and ransom mankind from certain damnation.
Apply – When we come to Jesus we die to ourselves and our own will and we take up His will for our lives. We must abide in Him and follow Him according to His will.
John 13:12-15 ESV When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you.
Philippians 2:3-4 ESV 3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Acts 20:28 ESV Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood.
Hebrews 13:17 ESV Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.
Respond – Lord, thank You for Your mercy and grace. Help me Lord serve You and others effectively in accordance with Your will and direction. Help me Lord as I strive to abide in You as You abide in me, to follow You faithfully and obediently forever. I pray for the lost people in our world today, I know You are ready to rescue them. May they accept You as savior and remain steadfast in a purposeful relationship with You. Amen.
