Highlight – Matthew 24: New Living Translation
Jesus Speaks about the Future
32 “Now learn a lesson from the fig tree. When its branches bud and its leaves begin to sprout, you know that summer is near. 33 In the same way, when you see all these things, you can know his return is very near, right at the door. 34 I tell you the truth, this generation[j] will not pass from the scene until all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.
36 “However, no one knows the day or hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself.[k] Only the Father knows.
37 “When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah’s day. 38 In those days before the flood, the people were enjoying banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat. 39 People didn’t realize what was going to happen until the flood came and swept them all away. That is the way it will be when the Son of Man comes.
Explain – Matthew Chapter 24 contains Jesus’ warning of the coming end times. He explained that no one knows the day or hour of Jesus Christ’s return, but that people would know the season if they were paying attention. The people of Noah’s time were not paying attention and they missed their rescue from certain destruction.
Apply – We must maintain our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, abiding in Him as He abides in us. We must remain vigilant not to lose faith or our attention with the abiding Holy Spirit or we too could be distracted when our time to meet Jesus comes.
Hebrews 9:28 ESV So Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.
1 Thessalonians 5:2 ESV For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
Revelation 1:7 ESV Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 ESV For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.
Philippians 3:20-21 ESV But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.
Respond- Lord, thank You for my salvation, I eagerly await the time when I will meet You face to face. I strive to follow You faithfully and obediently, consistently, and continuously so that I will be an effective servant for You. I pray for those that do not know You as their savior, Lord. Help them find You before it is too late. Amen.
