Visitors from the East
1 Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. About that time some wise men[a] from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, 2 “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose,[b]and we have come to worship him.”
Explain – The birth of the Messiah, the king of the Jews, was prophesied to be in the town of Bethlehem.
Micah 5:2 NLV 2 [b]But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the people of Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel, whose origins are in the distant past, will come from you on my behalf.
The wise men from eastern lands were following the signs and were seeking the Messiah, the king of the Jews, to worship Him.
Apply – We should learn to seek Him, as wise people today seek Him too.
Jeremiah 29:13 ESV 13 You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
For thus says the LORD to the house of Israel, “Seek Me that you may live.
Psalm 105:3-4 ESV 3 Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice! 4 Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!
Psalm 34:4-5 ESV 4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. 5 Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed.
Proverbs 28:5 ESV 5 Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the Lord
understand it completely.
Psalm 34:10 ESV 10 The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
Psalm 63:1 ESV O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
Respond- Lord, thank You for my salvation, for this awesome relationship that I share with You. I strive to seek You daily, to follow You obediently and faithfully. I pray for those that do not know You as their savior will seek and find You, and follow You through eternity. Amen.
