HEAR Journaling - Matthew Chapter 5
Highlight – Matthew 5:11-12 New Living Translation
11 “God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. 12 Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted in the same way.
Explain – There is a lot that I could cover in Matthew Chapter 5. Jesus first taught on the beatitudes and His conclusion is verses 11 & 12. He explains that His followers will be persecuted because they are followers of Him. He said to be happy and glad because a great reward awaits His believers and followers in heaven.
Apply – We can expect that the world will not appreciate followers of Christ now and into the future, until Christ’s return. We should seek the joy and peace that is only possible through the Holy Spirit. He will provide joy to His obedient faithful followers.
Romans 15:13 ESV May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
Romans 12:12 ESV Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
Romans 14:17 ESV For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Galatians 5:22-23 ESV But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Respond- Lord, thank You for the fruit of the Spirit that I experience. I strive to seek You daily, to follow You obediently and faithfully. I pray for those that do not know You as their savior will seek and find You, and follow You through eternity. Amen.
