Highlight – Matthew 7: 1-6 New Living Translation

Do Not Judge Others

7 “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. 2 For you will be treated as you treat others.[a] The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged.[b]

3 “And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye[c] when you have a log in your own? 4 How can you think of saying to your friend,[d] ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.

6 “Don’t waste what is holy on people who are unholy.[e] Don’t throw your pearls to pigs! They will trample the pearls, then turn and attack you.

Explain – Jesus explained much about our relationships with other people.  We must not judge as we will be measured by the standard that we judge others.  We should not waste our time trying to impart wisdom to unholy people using our own wisdom.  We must rely on the Holy Spirit to impart wisdom for us and His guidance to share when His time is right.

Apply – We need to confirm that the Lord is indeed our master, that our desire is to serve Him completely and fully in all our ways.  We must follow the Holy Spirit’s direction, not judge others by our own understanding, but seek His wisdom and share His wisdom to uplift and encourage.  We must walk carefully to ensure the Lord is leading us to share, not relying on our own understanding to evangelizing the unholy without God’s blessing.

James 4:11-12 ESV Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?

Titus 3:2 ESV 2 to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show perfect courtesy toward all people.

Romans 2:1-3 ESV Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God?

Ephesians 4:29 ESV Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

Respond- Lord, thank You for your guiding hand.  Help me Lord to encourage and build up others, to never judge anyone based on my understanding.  Help me Lord have the wisdom to follow You and not my own understanding, to willingly share Your Gospel to those that You direct me to, but to also know when to hold my tongue.  I pray for those that do not know You, that they will be drawn to seek You, today.  Amen.
