Women+ Soccer Detroit is on a mission to provide safe, community-based soccer for she’s and they’s of all skill levels. Founded in the spring of 2023, the group met together a few times a week to play pickup soccer for fun, connection, and a workout. But when they heard about Icarus Cup Philly, they knew it was time to test their inclusive footy crew with some competition.
In this episode of the Icarus Cup Podcast Series in collaboration with Because Football Media, Angela, Nikki, Sam, and Monica share what brought them all together, how soccer is central to their lives, and why they've been making the 12+ hour roadtrip from Detroit to Philly to soak up the vibes and (and the turf burn) at the Icarus Cup.
This summer, the team will be participating in their third Icarus Cup Philly and their FIRST Icarus Cup Austin tournament in a Women's/Non-Binary group they helped to create - it's an amazing story that is a prime example of the community and inclusion that CASA Soccer and Icarus FC are all about!

As CASA’s premier 7v7 event in collaboration with Icarus Football, dozens of teams compete in custom-designed jerseys for a weekend of thrilling matches and unforgettable experiences. Beyond the pitch, enjoy Opening Ceremonies, Evening Socials, a Beer Garden, food vendors, a DJ, and partner giveaways. With divisions for Open, Mixto, O-30, and Women’s Inclusive, there’s a spot for everyone, whether you seek competition or a fun, inclusive weekend.
