Deconstruction, a word that is being heavily used amongst current and former evangelicals. The definition of the word is a method of critical analysis of philosophical and literary language which emphasizes the internal workings of language and conceptual systems, the relational quality of meaning, and the assumptions implicit in forms of expression. In evangelical culture this has sounded like tearing down old teachings, untangling one’s actual faith from things they were taught that they don’t align with, seeking to align more biblically, and in some cases walking away from church – or walking away from faith altogether. In this episode, the girls talk through the hope that can lie beyond one’s deconstruction. The rebuilding of faith and community – around the table. It is possible to deconstruct and rebuild. We believe that a big key to rebuilding is finding the right community. A community that encourages you, provides you space to process, is willing to answer your hard questions, and loves you unconditionally. If you are a member of a faith community and wonder why people walk away from the church and what you can do to help and support – this episode is for you! If you have walked away but long for a community of faith – this is one you don’t want to miss!
