I'm going to read to you, first, the end of a book by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry called "Wind, Sand, and Stars." You may know him as the author of "The Little Prince." This is a memoir he wrote in 1939, and you will hear some less enlightened expressions of attitudes that were held by most French aristocrats in those days. Please see them in their historical context. He tells of a train trip he took in which he observed what happens to those tossed by the tides of the economy. It is a sad -- perhaps tragic -- story of people whose souls seem to have been crushed beyond recognition. This will make you gloomy. I promise to give you hope before it's over. I follow his essay with a Message of Light of my own. What is the theme of this episode? You can make a difference. So can I. We can shine.
