Description

Let's talk about consent. When did you first hear of this word, in what context? For us and our guest Justine, we saw it on college campus flyers: "Consent is SEXY." But as Justine points out, consent has always been present and necessary, whether we explicitly state it or not. Join us for part 1 of our conversation with Justine as we walk down memory lane, noting examples of consent (or lack of consent) that existed in our romantic relationships (where consent is most often mentioned), classrooms, and families.

Stay tuned for part 2 where we talk about how we navigate consent and setting boundaries  in the present day (with regards to podcasting, professional relationships, and more)!

More about Justine:
Justine Banal (they/she) is a queer non-binary Filipino educator, community organizer, and creative based in Orange County, CA. Their passions include helping marginalized communities access higher education, destigmatizing community colleges, championing LGBTQ+ rights, planning art-driven community events, and encouraging others to see the throughlines between different social movements to move toward collective liberation. After completing her associates degrees at Fullerton College, Justine transferred to UCLA, where she received her degree in Asian American Studies and is on her way to getting her Master’s. Justine also co-hosts @fandomfemmes - a comedic podcast where two queer femmes of color take your favorite anime/comic book convention's diversity panel and turn it into a year round conversation.
