Peter tells his readers that the end of all things is at hand. Therefore, the church should spend the rest of our time here living for the will of God. We should love each other fervently, be hospitable, and serve each other with the gifts we all received from God. We should also expect to suffer the fiery trial for Christ’s sake. These trials come to test our faith and purify our lives so we shouldn’t think it to be a strange thing, but rejoice and glorify God in the suffering.
