This week, Jeff & Chase are diving into a more obscure film in Angela Bassett's career: 1995's Strange Days. Set in the days leading up to Y2K (the year 2000), Los Angeles has become a war zone of social and political unrest. Lenny, played by Ralph Fiennes, is a former LAPD officer turned black-market SQUID dealer -- more on these SQUID devices in the episode.
Directed by Kathryn Bigelow and written by James Cameron, this film was a box office bomb, grossing only 8 million dollars on a 42 million dollar budget. However, the film has aged like a fine wine and many consider it to be an incredible cyberpunk, sci-fi, thriller cult classic.
Jeff & Chase discuss their feelings toward the film, why they think it was a commercial failure, the possibilities for this world in future iterations, and Angela's grounded performance as Lornette "Mace" Mason.
