Description

In this episode Imago Podcast host, Vanessa Brown discusses the theory of conspicuous consumption and how it relates to the fig tree in Mark chapter 11:12-14 12 On the next day, when they had left Bethany, He became hungry. 13 Seeing at a distance a fig tree in a leaf, He went to see if perhaps He would find anything on it; and when He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. 14 He said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again!” And His disciples were listening.Brown dissects why Jesus cursed the fig tree and why at first glance his treatment may seem harsh but in actuality, it is the fig tree that is at fault.  The fig tree's ostentatious display was a distraction and served no real purpose.
