This piece seems to have been put together by Dominican nuns from Our Lady of the Rosary Monastery, Summit, New Jersey. In 1983 they released the Summit Choirbook, which I don’t have a copy of, but I think a photocopy from the book ended up circulating in choir circles around Sydney in Australia.
The words are the oldest Marian Antiphon. Here’s a translation:
We fly to thy protection, O Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our prayers in our necessities but ever deliver us from every peril, O glorious and blessed Virgin.
The tune is a common Ukrainian hymn tune.
Here’s the Corpus Christi Watershed Article, which I had completely forgotten about, where I first posted the piece. The ensuing Facebook discussion thread yielded a four part setting and more interesting info.
