Description

Day 7 / 100 day Gregorian Chant Challenge

This the oldest known hymn to Mary.

There is a slightly different Roman version, but we picked up the Monastic version at the Maternal Heart of Mary Church, Lewisham and it has stuck.

Here are the words:

Sub tuum praesídium confúgimus Sancta Dei Génitrix

nostras deprecatiónes ne despícias in necessitátibus

sed a periculus cunctis libera nos semper

Virgo gloriosa et benedicta

And here is the translation:

Under thy patronage we fly, O Holy Mother of God

Don't reject our prayers in our necessities

but deliver us always from all dangers

O glorious and blessed Virgin
