Established in 2021, Petra Cares is the charitable arm of the Petra Automotive Products Company based in Cypress, Texas.
Throughout the years, Petra has supported many charitable causes. However, as the need in Houston continues to grow, Petra started its own non-profit in 2021 to have a greater local impact. Through careful thought and deliberation, the decision was made to tackle the growing dilemma of youths transitioning out of the foster care system.
Statistics show that within 3 years of aging out of foster care, 80% of these youths will either end up homeless, in prison or dead. There is a huge need for the community to come alongside these vulnerable young people at the most critical time in their lives, as many of them lack the education, social skills, and social connections to adequately prepare for adulthood.
We began to strategize to come up with a solution to impact one of the most marginalized people groups in our society. Although some organizations are doing great work to help with housing after transitioning, few are dealing with the other major hurdle. Gainful employment.
We are positioned to address this opportunity to make an impact in the lives of these youths by providing training and utilizing our relationships in the automotive industry to connect these individuals with rewarding careers!
