Description

On this special episode, enjoy the food of the iconic La Mexicana restaurant in Houston, Texas in the Montrose district. Authentic Mexican and  Tex-Mex food; all right here at La Mexicana.

Eduardo & America Trevino came to the US from Mexico in 1964. Eduardo is from the state of Coahuila and his wife, America is from Nuevo Leon. This combination is some of the flavors you taste in their food. They lived in Chicago for 15 years and came to Houston around 1982. This is when they had the vision of opening a restaurant, but started with a small corner store at first. The restaurant is located where that small corner store once sat. They began by selling sandwiches, chips, and drinks and slowly added more food; and a few more tables. They also added steam tables as they expanded more food options from that corner store including the famous fajita tacos. As in any good business expanded little by little piece by piece. More tables were added, then the patio, and then eventually, the upper level. A full menu was added with delicious and authentic style stews to popular breakfast items which are my favorite. These stews and breakfasts have become a staple in the city.

Dear three children are all involved in the business and daily operations of the restaurant. Dante Trevino is the operations manager; Zulema Gonzalez is the general manager, and Briseida Trevino is the bar director and manager. This powerhouse family and their powerhouse restaurant have continued to satisfy customers in Houston since 1982.

If you live in Houston or are visiting Houston don't miss out on visiting this great restaurant, La Mexicana.
