Intermittent catheterization (IC) is a technique used to empty the bladder when a person is unable to do so naturally. It involves the insertion of a catheter into the urethra to drain urine from the bladder.

It's important to explain to the patient why intermittent catheterization is necessary. Emphasize the significance of maintaining proper hygiene before and during catheterization. Show the patient the different types of catheters available and teach them how to choose the appropriate size and type of catheter based on their needs and preferences. Acknowledge that intermittent catheterization can be a challenging and emotional experience for some individuals. Offer psychological support and resources to help them cope with the process.
