The Roman Empire. Jesus was born at a time in history dominated by the Romans. The politicians mentioned in the narratives about Jesus' birth were, in many ways, accomplished leaders. They built great buildings, conquered many lands, had great wealth and prestige – but they became arrogant, evil leaders. They ruled cruelly, they made people afraid for their lives, and many of these leaders cared only about the kingdom they could build for their own glory.
Jesus, the Prince of Peace, knew how to bring peace in the midst of unkind rule. He wants to now bring peace to us, and then through us. If you want peace, then you have to MAKE peace.
