Description

As we return to church and settle back into our 'regular' rhythms of life, I find myself reflecting on a question: Are we seeking perfection, or are we choosing to be present? As good United Methodists, we often talk about striving for perfection—but not the perfection that comes from flawless performance or achieving impossible standards. Instead, we aim to perfect our love: love for God, for our neighbors, and for ourselves. Yet, where we often fall short is in being truly present. In our fast-paced, technology-driven world, countless things vie for our attention, making it difficult to be fully present in the moment. I’ll be the first to admit that I struggle with this, too. But what if we let go of our need to be perfect and instead embraced the simple, profound act of being present? What if we showed up—not as flawless, but as fully present? Because perhaps, in the end, it is presence, not perfection, that God truly asks of us.
