Description

Today is my nine-year sobriety anniversary! On April 28, 2016, I woke up in a detox center with a blood alcohol content of zero. That was the beginning of a new life. To honor this milestone, my mom, sister, and niece joined me for a mini celebration. We shared sushi, painted together, and started a special canvas project that my sober friends will soon add to. It serves as a lasting reminder of the community that has lifted me throughout my recovery. Today, I'm filled with gratitude for sobriety, second (and third) chances, and the life that blossomed after my darkest days.

These past few days, I've been moving a little more quietly through life, sitting with grief after losing a friend. Sometimes healing feels less like strength and more like choosing to live, one small decision at a time. Sobriety has taught me that when life feels heavy, uncertain, and overwhelming, daily commitment and consistency can look like courage from the outside. I’m still here because I keep choosing life, even on the hard days. Thank you for celebrating this precious milestone with me and for walking this journey alongside me, one messy, beautiful day at a time.

This month I'm participating in a fundraiser for vestibular disorders awareness because I know what it’s like to live with something you can’t fully explain and no one can see. Visit my fundraising page: https://s2b.funraise.org/fundraiser/rachel-abbassi
