Description

Today I talk about control and surrender within the realms of alcoholism recovery and stroke and vestibular rehabilitation. Drawing from the poignant insights of Chapter 3 of the AA Big Book, I explore the failed attempts by alcoholics to control their drinking inevitably illustrating that alcoholism is not merely a matter of willpower but a fatal disease.

Contrasting these struggles, I shift to stroke recovery and managing vestibular disorders, which I am personally navigating. The episode shares experiences of maintaining control over my environment and activities to manage symptoms effectively and encourage proper rehabilitation. From enjoyable outings with my puppies to family meals, I discuss the importance of being vigilant and knowing when to pull back to prevent symptom escalation.

This episode offers a unique perspective on the need for absolute surrender in the face of alcoholism versus the strategic control required in stroke recovery and vestibular therapy.

Join me as I reflect on the importance of understanding our limitations, implementing strategies, and embracing community and support in our journeys. Whether you're battling addiction or a chronic health condition, giving up is not an option. Let's stay committed and be gentle with ourselves as we navigate these paths.
