Description

Dealing with insurance companies suck! Today I talk about the more-than-mildly-frustrating reality many of us face—how health insurance companies make recovery harder than it already is. Whether it's stroke recovery or overcoming alcoholism, our doctors know what we need, but insurance often gets in the way.

I talk about my experience this week with a pre-authorization denial for a heart monitor LOOP implant. Do they even care if I live or die? Am I a piece of paper to them or a human being? I share how I push through these obstacles to get the care I deserve. It’s time to talk about the real barriers in healthcare, and how necessary it is to talk about it so that we know we are not alone.

Denials can feel like abandonment and that you are not believed to be sick. Health insurance decisions lead to very real mental health struggles added on top of the physical deficits one already experiences.

Today I talk encourage you to appeal denials, work with your doctors, be the squeaky wheel, get support from advocacy groups, and advocate for change. Stand up for others who can't.
