Description

Today I talk about change, losing what you can't replace—it's one of the hardest human experiences. It hurts. If we’re lucky, we find asking for help easily. If we are suffering from an invisible illness that wants us dead or isolated, then we either can’t or won’t ask for help. We think that we can fix ourselves, or we want someone to find us in the gutter and fix us if there's anything left.

By listening and focusing on today’s music therapy song, "Fix You" by Coldplay, I was able to express some pain that I otherwise would not have acknowledged. I share about the idea that we are not forgotten or abandoned by our higher power in times of suffering. I like to believe that we experience what we do because it is part of a greater picture, one larger than any of us could ever understand.

In the most difficult times of my life I've been very sick, and my best efforts are inadequate to stop the changes in my life. Failing to accept lack of control leaves me exhausted physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. I am hardwired with depression—some things we can't change within us either. Our worlds change shape without our permission, and this is when we have to grab someone else's hand, many hands, to guide us home.
