Description

In today’s episode of the Recovery Daily Podcast, I discuss how practicing AA’s Steps 9 and 10 has helped me find new opportunities to nurture my relationships and smooth out the wrinkles that naturally develop over time. Initially, making amends through Step 9 gave me the courage to share my feelings and participate more actively in my relationships. This shift revealed the level of participation I had been lacking with friends, family, my partner, and my children.

I realized the importance of getting uncomfortable to grow and contribute positively to my relationships. Over the past eight years, I’ve learned to give more and understand what others appreciate receiving.

My sobriety program taught me to consistently practice Step 10, which involves daily self-reflection and promptly admitting our wrongs to maintain our relationships. Today, I discuss how this foundation of self-reflection helps us stay aware of our behavior and its impact on others. By asking ourselves questions about our actions, communication, and thoughts, we can catch opportunities to be better humans. But, we can go a bit further than addressing our mistakes. We can also find ways to reassure, appreciate, and give more to those we care about.

Listen as I share practical ways to nurture relationships and smooth out wrinkles. Incorporating these simple acts into our daily lives can make our relationships stronger and more fulfilling.
