Description

Today, we're going to unpack honesty from this angle: self-awareness is required to be honest about our motives. One thing I've found to be a great self-correcting exercise is admitting my motives to my higher power. Talking about my fears and hidden truths out loud may sound awkward, and it is (haha), but it's a powerful step towards honesty.

The heart of honesty is the intention behind our actions. Are our intentions as clear cut as they seem at first consideration, or are we manipulating someone or the situation to our benefit?

It's also important to recognize that blaming others for our circumstances can be a comfortable way to ignore our own defects of character. Accepting our circumstances, the product of our choices, allows us to invite some humility into our lives.

I encourage you to reflect on your motives, use the tools you’ve gathered that we talk about in these Recovery Daily Podcast episodes to help you examine the quality of your inner conversation. You might just hear a motive that you didn’t know was hiding underneath your good intentions if you think out loud.

We are closing in on our Reads and Recovery episode Jan. 29 – it will be a recording just like this one. Please send your feedback on our book of the month to rachel@recoverydailypodcast.com or fill out the contact form on my website. If you haven’t started reading this
month, there’s still time.
