This prayer thing is very new for me, and I typically shy away from talking about it. But what the heck; I’ve had something on my mind. Buying and selling a house is a stressful event in one’s life. I’ve questioned my commitment to never asking for anything in my prayers and only expressing gratitude, because well, I want this new house at the lake so bad. But when I begin to pray, I always resort back to my original prayer format: “Thy Will Be Done Not Mine.” Nothing else feels comfortable, and honestly, God isn’t a Genie.

I asked “ChattyMcChatterton” (aka Chatty) (aka ChatGPT) what the Bible says about praying for something. I loved the answer and thought I’d share it, but before I do I have these thoughts about it. Humility is at the heart of asking for help, hence at the heart of prayer. When I try to force life in the direction I want, I’m irritable and discontent. Prayer moves me out of the driver’s seat and into the passenger’s. If I’m all in on this faith thing, then God already knows my desires and fears.

So, Chatty gave me this prayer which expresses exactly what I need right now:

“God, I bring this need to You with an open heart. You know my desires, my fears, and my pain. If it is in Your will, please grant what I ask. But above all, give me the strength to trust You, the patience to wait on You, and the faith to accept whatever answer comes, knowing You work all things for my good. Amen.”

As much as I WANT the house, I NEED trust, patience, and faith to accept whatever comes in God’s time and not mine.
