Description

As DNA testing has become so readily available and companies like 23andme.com and Ancestry.com are growing their database’ with more and more folks who want to explore and understand their genetics, people are finding out lots of surprising things about their health and their relatives.

In this episode, I talk about processing what can feel like life-altering news. But wait…is it life actually life-altering? These experiences, as jarring they are, can also been incredibly enlightening. My own experience in this realm has taught me about the resilience of the human spirit and the capacity of our hearts to both heal and expand. It speaks to the very essence of recovery and healing. It's about facing the unexpected with grace, about learning to let go and let be, and about finding strength in the most turbulent times in our lives.

I have found my solution in Alcoholic Anonymous' eleventh step prayer:

Lord, make me a channel of Thy peace;
that where there is hatred, I may bring love;
that where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness;
that where there is discord, I may bring harmony;
that where there is error, I may bring truth;
that where there is doubt, I may bring faith;
that where there is despair, I may bring hope;
that where there are shadows, I may bring light;
that where there is sadness, I may bring joy.

Lord, grant that I may seek rather to comfort, than to be comforted;
to understand, than to be understood;
to love, than to be loved.

For it is by self-forgetting, that one finds.
It is by forgiving, that one is forgiven.
It is by dying, that one awakens to Eternal Life.

Amen.
