Each of us is just a piece of a greater whole, and in the spirit of healing together, this episode focuses on Step 2 of my recovery program. I talk about how I apply the principles of Steps 1 and 2 of
my sobriety program to the challenges I’ve faced in stroke recovery.
My sobriety program has driven home for me that people need people, and that we are better together.
Six months ago I was in so much pain trying to live a normal life and act like I was the same person I was before the stroke. The strongest
thing we can do for ourselves is to listen to our weaknesses and our pain and take action. That was Step 1 for me.
I believed that things could be different and that I didn’t have to remain trapped in my suffering, but I couldn’t do it on my own. This is Step 2 and where the work started in stroke recovery. I needed to form a team of people who are stronger together than I could ever be alone.
